Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you so much for visiting my personal Team Challenge page! Many of you are familiar with my battle with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and my recent remission status (praise God!), but if you are wanting to know more of my story, I invite you to read a blog post I wrote a few years back: https://strengthanddignityfortoday.com/my-story/ .
On this journey, it has become apparent to me that this disease has a purpose. Already having a science background, I understand the importance and significance of proper clinical research for disease management and treatment. Thus far, I've been a part of over a dozen research studies, from donating tissue and DNA to participating in extensive epigenetic surveys and new treatment therapies.
I also understand the need for patient, provider, and public education. I have come into contact with my fair share of ignorance at all levels. Instead of wasting energy getting angry about it, I would rather spend my time and energy supporting proper education and awareness as the solution.
Additionally, it is my goal to share a message of hope. It doesn't matter whether you are an IBD patient or not; at some pointS (capitalized on purpose) in life, you will face trials. Hope is alive and it exists! You are on this earth, breathing air for another day, for a reason--this is something I firmly believe!
I wanted to be on Team Challenge with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) because this team allows me to do more than I am doing on my own. I am not able to participate in every research project because I do not always qualify for the study parameters. CCFA is the largest organization dedicated to curing IBD and currently supports the most research efforts--several in which I have had the pleasure of participating. The funds raised through Team Challenge directly benefit CCFA to support its mission**. More than 80 cents of every dollar donated to the Foundation goes to mission-critical programs. Additionally, the team gives me a platform from which to bring about public education and awareness, while supporting their efforts for patient and provider education. There are several online and in-person opportunities coming my way that I can't wait to share with you! Lastly, the culminating event that we do as a Team is a half marathon in California in July. I had to give up running during my active disease years as it was triggering acute flare-ups; I have just begun the slow process of beginning to increase my distance and increase my endurance. To be able to complete this race would be a huge personal achievement for me and an encouragement to other patients battling the disease.
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to visit my personal page and for your contributions. I hope you remain encouraged to take charge of your health and inspired to face challenges with strength and dignity!
