  • Local Hero
  • Meet our Naperville Honored Hero Michelle Law!

    Michelle Law - 2

My name is Michelle and I am honored to be the Home Town Hero for the 2017 Naperville walk.

I'm a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mom and the 500 other titles I am.. I'm 37 and don't remember my life without Crohn’s Disease. It has robbed me of time with my kids and family, made me say no to doing things with friends, got "well you don't look sick" more times than I can count.. but yet.. here I am.. still fighting.

As you all know, I have been fighting this horrid disease for 19 years!! It wanted to take my life in July of 2015. But today, I'm still up and fighting and stronger than ever even with my "bag lady" status now. I have seen 150 doctors, numerous medicines that failed me miserably, numerous hospital stays, and nothing helped. 8 months bed ridden in 2015, no life, no energy, no nothing. It was the worst part of my life. But July 15, 2015, my amazing surgeon tried to just do a resection of my colon. However 13 days later, my guts perforated causing me to go septic and needing my 2nd surgery to save my life. I spent a week on life support, and fighting to live. I amazed my doctors and nurses by how fast I pushed myself to recover and heal. I have now made it my mission in life to spread the word and raise funds to support funding new medicines that may cure me some day.
Today, I am a bag lady living life, driving a race car and enjoying life again. But, it wouldn't be happening if the research and doctors didn't get the funding they needed. My mission is life is now to help others not suffer like I do.

For the 2nd year, I will be walking in the Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). Take Steps is CCFA's national walk the nation's largest event dedicated to finding cures for digestive diseases. It is a casual 2-3 mile stroll to raise money for crucial research, bringing us closer to a future free from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Over 1.6 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases. While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings this community together in a fun, energetic and supportive atmosphere.

Your donation will help support local patient programs, as well as important research projects. This cause is very important to me and I appreciate your help as we fight for cures! In addition to donating, you can join me at the event. There will be food, music and family activities. The more money we raise, the closer we will be to making life more manageable for patients who live with these diseases every day.

Please join me or donate to my efforts to support CCFA in finding cures!!

Take Steps Honored Heroes represent the Crohn's disease & ulcerative colitis warriors living in our community. They share their story of life with IBD to raise awareness and inspire others to join the fight against digestive diseases.

  • Volunteer
  • Thousands of volunteers have helped the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) work toward our mission to find cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to provide a high level of support, education, research, and resources to our IBD community.

We have several volunteer opportunities available. If you are interested, please reach out to the Walk Manager Mimi Bajagich at 847-827-0404 or
