Meet Your Corporate Chairman!
Dean Marcoccia has been actively involved with the CCFA in the Sacramento region since 2009 when his son, Alexander, was first diagnosed. Alexander experienced five months of bleeding, excruciating abdominal pain, fatigue, arthritis and nausea. He lost 15 percent of his body weight and after several misdiagnosis numerous hospital procedures and tests; Alexander was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.
That year, he served as the corporate chair for Take Steps and single handedly brought in over a third of the revenue in corporate sponsorship. He also was successful in securing a marketing/PR firm to help raise awareness and increase visibility, resulting in many new teams for the event.
In 2010, he secured Senator Ron Calderon as the corporate chair and served as the honorary chair to ensure that the revenue goals of the event were met. Working closely with Senator Calderon, Dean helped to get a resolution passed in the California State Senate proclaiming the month of May for Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness in order to coincide with the CCFA’s annual efforts of hosting Take Steps Walks during the spring.
He continued his commitment in 2011, serving again as the honorary chair and securing 10 Senators and Assemblymen to serve as co-chairs (including Fiona Ma, Lou Correa, Ron Calderon, Ted Gaines, Juan Vargas, Gil Cedillo, Isadore Hall III, Jerry Hill, Kristin Olsen and Tony Mendoza). Because of his involvement, Sacramento was not only able to meet its revenue goal, but exceed it.
He has been the driving source of almost all corporate sponsorship for the walk for the last 3 years, resulting in over a third of the revenue each year. His ongoing dedication to our cause and leadership by example are to be commended. It is our hope that by continuing to have such an active member of the community champion our cause, it will bring other leaders in the region to the table.
Dean would like to invite you to join us as we endeavor to raise a record high of $110,000 to help people suffering from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, chronic inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract that cause severe pain, prolonged hospitalization, and potentially life threatening complications and surgeries.
