Our Take Steps walks offer a wonderful day for family, friends and the community to celebrate all of the efforts that have been put forth in raising funds towards our mission.  Our walk events are filled with live music, food, kids’ entertainment, educational materials, and, of course, wonderful exposure for our corporate partners.

Take Steps for Crohn’s & colitis is a family friendly community walk dedicated to raising awareness and mission-critical funds for cures for digestive diseases.  In the past five years alone, we succeeded in bringing together over 100,000 people and raised close to $40 million to help further CCFA’s mission. 

80 cents of every dollar raised goes towards breakthrough research, public and professional education, and patient support services in communities across the nation.

HOW MUCH IS IT TO WALK?  There are no registration or entry fees because we want Take Steps to be accessible to anyone who wishes to Walk with us, however.....

Take Steps is a vital fundraising program that relies on fundraising support from every participant.  We encourage EVERYONE to help in the fundraising efforts and collect donations under their own name.  Our goal is for 100% fundraising participation from every walker.  Please help us reach that goal.

Registered participants may make a "self donation" when the register and promote the event and their fundraising goal to friends, family and coworkers.  While many will exceed this amount, it's suggested that each participant raise at least $25 for CCFA. We can't find the cures without the fundraising efforts from EVERYONE!

WHO SHOULD REGISTER?  Every person who is walking with us should register on this website.  There is a waiver associated with each registration, which is required.  Help us plan for a successful event by registering EVERY PERSON on the team.  Be sure to answer all the questions, including shirt size and ages!

 

Tips and need to knows for walk day;


We are just under 24 hours till the Take Steps walk is here! The weather forecast is looking great, so get excited for a nice stroll through Wegerzyn Gardens!   We’re at just over $18,500 raised so far, which means we are 52% to our goal of $36,000.  So please send out that final round of email reminders, post to facebook, and make sure to turn in any matching gift forms. You can also keep fundraising AFTER the walk, so keep that in mind!

Directions to the Wegerzyn Gardens (1301 E Siebenthaler Ave, Dayton, OH 45414) 

From I-275E

  1. Follow I-75 N to exit 57 Wagner Ford Road, Siebenthaler Avenue, Neff Road
  2. Turn left onto Wagner Ford Rd                             
  3. Turn right onto N Dixie Dr
  4. Turn left onto E Siebenthaler Ave
  5. Wegerzyn Gardens is located on right side about 1/2 of a mile up the road.

 

 From I-275W

  1. Take exit 57 toward Wagner Ford Rd/Siebenthaler Ave
  2. Continue onto Keats Dr.                                 
  3. Turn right onto N Dixie Dr
  4. Take the 1st left onto E Siebenthaler Ave
  5. Wegerzyn Gardens is located on right side about 1/2 of a mile up the road.

 *Please look for Take Steps balloons, signs, and volunteers to signify you are at the correct parking.


Included are some important logistics for Saturday’s walk- read carefully & take note!

  • Event Time:  Check-in and Registration begins at 9am.  Gem from the Dayton Dragons and Bonez from Dayton Demonz will be there to get us warmed up and lead us in Taking Steps for a cure!  The walk will begin at 9:30am, followed by a short program and announcements.  Make sure you stick around to see Troupe Roja perform their exciting belly dancing routine!!!!  Please check-in at the registration table upon arrival.  Walk-up registrations and donations are welcome.

 

  • Event Fun:  The walk will feature Fox 45 traffic reporter and emcee extraordinaire Hilary Zalla, games & activities, and more!  We encourage you to visit all of our wonderful vendors and sponsors.  This year you will be receiving a passport card with all of the vendors logos on it.  Visit each of the vendors, ask them a few questions, and have them initial your card.  Once you have collected all the vendors signatures turn in your card at the CCFA advocacy table to be entered into our raffle drawing.  The drawing will take place at 11:15am.  We will provide plenty of water and some limited foods, but you’re welcome to bring your own.   As you return from the 25 minute walk through the gardens, there will be additional announcements, fun awards & more, so we hope you’ll stick around!  Please note Alcohol is Prohibited!

 

  • Bringing donations to the walk:  All money needs to be in a walker envelope.  Please write your Team Name on the envelope. If you or your team members are bringing donations to the walk, please make sure each team member has their own walker envelope filled out completely so that we can apply those dollars to the correct team member account.  If you have a lot of coins, please convert them into cash or check made out to CCFA.  All donations received online after 6pm on Friday may not be reflected at registration.  Please bring proof of these donations if they will make a difference in the incentives you receive.

 

  • Incentives:  Take Steps incentives are available to participants who register for the walk and actively fundraise towards their goal.  Any registered participant who raises $100 per their own individual fundraising account will receive an event T-shirt.  At $250 you’ll receive a white Take Steps cap, and at $500 a Take Steps white long sleeve tee. 

 

  • Parking is available inside Wegerzyn Gardens.

Meet our Local Honored Hero!

Who is your Hero? Who do you walk for? The Take Steps Walk is all about  honoring all of those who are dealing with the constant daily struggle that exists with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Our local honored hero serves as a representative of all patients who are waging their courageous battles with these chronic diseases, working to increase public awareness and understanding. We are proud to announce this year's Honored Hero, Andrew Hartmann of Beavercreek. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - PLEASE READ!!! 


I'm having issues with your website:  Please use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.  Please do not use nternet Explorer when navgating the Take Steps website.


Who are checks payable to?  Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America or CCFA.


What are "Team Donations?"  If a supporter visited your team page and opted to make a donation on behalf of the team rather than a specific walker, those are noted as Team Donations.  Those particular donations will be credited to the Team Captain's fundraising efforts.  Sorry, we are not able to "move" those donations around to individual walkers.  Please advise your donors to select a specific walker to contribute to from here on out. 


I have a bunch of money collected.  Where should I send that?   Please send checks made payable to CCFA to our Southwest Ohio Chapter office with a note that indicates who we should credit the donation to and note the DAYTON Walk.  Send to:  CCFA Southwest Ohio Chapter - 4015 Executive Park Dr, Suite 350 - Cincinnati, OH 45241.  If it's later than Thursday, September 10, 2014 please bring donations to the event.


How long is the Walk?  It's a 20-30 minute casual stroll though the beautiful gardens in park.


If my friend doesn't want to walk the route, is that okay?  Of course!  They can simply hang back at picnic table area with us while you're on the route.  Walkers are only gone about 20-30 minutes .


Does everyone on my team get a Take Steps T-shirt?  Anyone who raises $100 for CCFA will receive a T-shirt. The Team Captain can check in the entire team and distribute the shirts to their team.


Can we make our own team t-shirts? YES! And signs, too!  Many teams will incorporate a team theme and rock the walk with some flare... Even if you have your own shirts, anyone who raises $100 for CCFA will get a Take Steps shirt.


My friend called the morning of the Walk and she isn't registered. Can she still attend Take Steps? YES! We will register her for the event.


Toilets - are there enough toilets?   We thought of your needs and there are plenty of restrooms, we gotcha covered!!


Why is it important to register everyone on my team?  So we can plan to feed everyone!!!  We will not have enough food, water and fun if we don't know how many are going to attend!  Please register everyone on your team today!
