I have met the most amazing people through the Team Challenge program who have become my closest friends! We are all working toward the same goal... finding a cure for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. — Leigh

When you join the Team, not only will you receive a comprehensive program to help you achieve your fitness goals, but you will become part of the Team Challenge family. Honored Heroes

Who are Honored Heroes?

An Honoree is someone who provides inspiration to our athletes throughout the training and fundraising period. Honorees serve as symbols of strength and motivation, support and determination. An Honoree is someone who is currently is being treated for Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Each of our Team Challenge participants is matched up with an Honoree. Honorees have the unique opportunity to connect with individuals who have committed themselves to raising funds for the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. They will share their strength and courage with participants who are training to complete their endurance event.

When participants join Team Challenge, they commit to many months of training and fundraising before completing a half marathon. They are not only motivated by their own personal fitness goals, but are truly inspired by the bravery and fortitude of each Honoree.

Meet Sarah

Sarah

For as long as she can remember, Sarah has had painful constipation and severe stomach aches. She was always on the small side, but her parents just thought it was because she was a very picky eater. It wasn't until this past January that the pain in Sarah's stomach soared to an ultimate high, causing her to wake up during the night, every night. Sarah was lucky: she was able to be seen and diagnosed with Crohn's within a month and was put on a plan. She has "taken Crohn's by the horns" and isn't letting it stop her from  doing anything that she loves to do. Sarah loves to dance, play softball, hang out with her friends and spend time with her family. In the summers, she loves to swim, go "glamping" in Connecticut and spend a week at the beach in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. She's a great big sister to her four-year-old sister, Olivia, and loves hanging out with her older sister, Emily. Even with all the pain that comes with this disease, you will always see a smile on Sarah's face. She has taken on all the responsibilities that come with a chronic illness and is diligent about taking her daily medication. She doesn't let Crohn's stop her--or slow her down--from being the kind and sweet nine-year-old girl whom everyone loves. Sarah is definitely a hero!
