CCFA can move forward to help thousands of children with Crohn's & Colitis have a chance at a normal life.

The CCFA Pediatric Network is developing the largest nationwide program dedicated to improving the standard of care for children and adolescents with Crohn's and colitis. Capitalizing on the many scientific breakthroughs of recent years, physicians from dozens of centers around the country are registering kids in this innovative program. Through state-of-the art laboratory science, blood and other biological samples are being studied and stored. Children with severe IBD often suffer irreversible growth retardation. Researchers hope to identify more effective ways of managing childhood disease, to avoid the sometimes dire consequences of Crohn's disease in children.

CCFA can move forward to support the new front in the battle against inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)

Through our CCFA Gut Microbiome Initiative, scientists are investigating the deep mysteries of our intestinal bacteria, as revealed by their genes. Their objective is to shed new light on the role that our relationship with normal bacteria in the gut plays in the development of Crohn's disease. CCFA-funded research is creating a new set of scientific tools that will be available to researchers around the world who want to test new ideas related to the microbiome -- the genome of gut bacteria. We believe that this new front in our battle will lead to some important gains in disease management.

CCFA has been raising money to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis for nearly four decades. The Foundation delivers eighty cents of every dollar directly to mission-critical programs that benefit patients tomorrow and today. Our programs include career-defining grants for the best and brightest young scientists and physicians. The National Institutes of Health has funded expanded research by our grant recipients at an exceptionally high rate of over 80% -- an indicator of the quality of our grant programs. The fingerprint of CCFA-supported researchers is evident in virtually every development that has improved the quality of life for over 1.4 million Americans suffering from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
