Advocacy is a major component of CCFA's mission. Our advocates are not only patients, but family members, friends, caregivers, and doctors who want to make their voices heard in the collective movement towards a future free from Crohn's and colitis.
CCFA encourages its members, volunteers, and friends to become actively involved in advancing our public policy goals. Make a legislative visit, write a letter, and ask your family and friends to do the same. By sharing personal stories and providing crucial information about the personal and social impact of these devastating diseases, our advocates educate and inspire elected representatives in Congress to help enable and support our work.
Three important milestones included the creation of the Congressional Crohn’s and Colitis Caucus, a successful inaugural Caucus briefing, and the passing of Senate Resolution 199, which declared December 1-7 as Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week. All of these efforts promote awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and highlight the need for expanded research at the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They also emphasize the importance of accessible insurance and disability of patients with IBD.
We've already achieved great feats in urging our legislators to implement responsible policies that can transform the lives of some 1.4 million Americans. With your help, we can push the boundaries of our success even further!
