Team Challenge Summer Season a Big Success!
Team Challenge LA/OC just returned from the beautiful Napa-to-Sonoma Half-Marathon, where we joined 400 other Team Challenge participants from across the nation to raise over $1.4 million to fight Crohn’s and colitis! LA/OC had the second-largest chapter team, with 42 participants at the race! While there, we celebrated the ninth birthday of our honored teammate, Brenna Lutzky – complete with cake, candles and party hats!
According to Jennifer Lutzky, a Team Challenge participant, her daughter Brenna was “proud to be singled out to represent Crohn’s and colitis patients and provide a personal story to team members who didn’t previously have a personal connection to inflammatory bowel disease. It was such a wonderful way to create a fun and positive experience out of her illness.” Jennifer also adds that “race weekend in Napa was such a memorable experience for our whole family, from the long loud line of cheering and high-fiving as we entered the pasta party to Brenna crossing the finish line beside me. These are memories that we will cherish forever.”
Do you want to create memories that last a lifetime while supporting the vital work of the CCFA? Join us in training for the Zappos.com Rock ‘n’ Roll Half-Marathon in Las Vegas! Information meetings start in August and take place throughout the greater LA/OC area. For more information, you can email Reed Pellett: rpellett@ccfa.org or Rob Baird: rbaird@ccfa.org.
Experience the excitement and sense of accomplishment that only Team Challenge can provide by joining today!
CCFA Nominates Ben Morrison for The 3rd Annual Classy Awards
The CLASSY Awards is the largest philanthropic awards ceremony in the country, recognizing the most outstanding philanthropic achievements by charities, businesses and individuals nationwide. Starting July 25th, America will vote for one winner in each of the 12 categories. The winners will be announced live during a Hollywood-esque award ceremony in San Diego, CA, similar in style to the Academy Awards, but philanthropy-inspired.
CCFA is proud to announce that our own Ben Morrison has been nominated for the “Volunteer of the Year” category and needs your vote! Ben has pioneered a new kind of dialogue with his comedic one-man-show “Pain in the Butt,” a humorous journey into his own battle with Crohn’s disease. Over the last year, Ben has performed across the US in support of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and has brought significant awareness and financial support to the cause. To learn more about Ben Morrison listen to his interview with Patt Morrison on KPCC. If Ben wins this award, CCFA will receive $10,000 and publicity for our cause. We are honored to support Ben for the Classy Award! Please vote today and share!

CCFA Greater Los Angeles/ Orange County Education Programs 2011
Summer time at CCFA usually means it’s Camp Oasis time! The Greater Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter sent over 75 kids with IBD to Camp Oasis at the Painted Turtle in Lake Hughes, CA. The campers had the opportunity to swim, fish, horseback ride, and participate in many other fun activities. Most importantly the campers connected with other kids and adults living with IBD. It was a wonderful week and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.
Our Orange County Symposium at the University of California, Irvine is quickly approaching. Last year over 200 people came to learn more about IBD. Please check our Chapter's web page, where registration information will be posted.

CCFA Partners Gives Patients a Chance to Share
CCFA is looking for 10,000 or more IBD patients to share how IBD has impacted their lives through CCFA Partners, our newly-launched groundbreaking online research and education program. By completing a short, confidential survey about their current quality of life and providing occasional updates on their health, participants can shape researchers' understanding of IBD. This will ultimately help us to reach the goal of more rapid research progress, better treatments, and the cures we need. Start your survey here.
New Congressional Caucus Addresses Inflammatory Bowel Disease Issues
Congressmen Ander Crenshaw (R-FL) and Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) have launched the Congressional Crohn's and Colitis Caucus. This new caucus will work to promote awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, the need for expanded research at the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the importance of accessible insurance and disability for patients with IBD. Congressmen Crenshaw and Jackson have invited all Congressional colleagues to become members of this new caucus. For information on how you can make your voice heard and advocate for IBD patients, visit www.ccfa.org/advocacy.
