What Will Your Challenge Be? Team Challenge Information Sessions Start Soon!
In this winter cold, it’s safe to say everyone is looking forward to summer! You can make your summer even more exciting - imagine yourself in Napa Valley, Chicago, Kona, Providence, even Dublin or Madrid! Team Challenge can take you to your choice of half marathons in these cities, and you’ll get to train locally with other teammates dedicated to finding a cure for Crohn’s and colitis!
Team Challenge is CCFA’s endurance training program and is open to people of all abilities - from beginner to advanced, all runners and walkers benefit from professional coaching support. Fundraising includes accommodations on race weekend, training plans, race entry fees, pasta dinner, a training shirt and jersey for the race, and more! The program also includes local group training sessions, which provide both support and camaraderie. Our staff is sensitive to the needs of our teammates with IBD, ensuring that training routes incorporate bathrooms along the way.

Meet our 2014 Cincinnati Honored Hero - Shaan Ahuja
My name is Shaan Ahuja and I am really excited to be this year’s Take Steps Honored Hero in Cincinnati. My family and I have been active with the Take Steps Walk for the last 4 years. My mom has also been on the Take Steps Committee the last 3 years. This is the 5th year for Team GoShaanGo! And we hope to make this our biggest yet!
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease just after my 6th birthday, when I was in kindergarten. The first few years after I found out I had Crohn’s were really, really hard. I missed lots of games for the sports I loved (soccer, basketball, and baseball). Sometimes it would seem like I was getting better and then out of nowhere, I would end up being really sick. But the last couple of years have been pretty good. I’ve been able to play the sports I love, hang out with friends in the neighborhood, and eat my favorite foods like popcorn and chocolate.
Having Crohn’s hasn’t been easy, but it’s not everything about who I am. It’s a part of who I am. Because of having Crohn’s, I’ve been able to do cool stuff, like be a part of Take Steps. Last summer, I went to Camp Oasis, a weeklong camp in Michigan just for kids with Crohn’s and Colitis. I’m also a Children’s Champion for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. This past fall, my friends at school donated money to have an out of uniform day in honor of CCFA. I talked about my experiences during morning announcements and it really felt great to have some of my friends finally understand what I go through - the good and the bad.
My family and I are really involved with CCFA. I hope you’ll get involved to. Some ideas:
I appreciate you taking an interest in the Take Steps Walk here in Cincinnati and hope to see you on Saturday, May 17th in Sharon Woods Park. Together we can make a difference for people like me and anyone who suffers from challenges with IBD.

KROGER and CCFA Southwest Ohio
As we hope you know, we continue to partner with the Kroger Company. If you have not already registered CCFA Southwest Ohio to get credit when you swipe your Kroger Plus Card, please consider doing so ASAP. You simply go on-line to Kroger.com and follow the instructions to elect CCFA Southwest Ohio as your not-for-profit organization choice for their Kroger Rewards Program.
Remember, our chapter will get credit every time you swipe your card at any Kroger. This will not affect your fuel points or other Kroger benefits in any way. As an FYI, Kroger is not on a calendar fiscal year, so you still have time to make a positive impact for our foundation this year and into 2014!!!!
