TURN UP THE HEAT WITH TEAM CHALLENGE!
Joan Challman, a Team Challenge alumna from Ketchum, Idaho, certainly has not let distance stop her from making a huge impact through her participation in our Northwest Chapter’s half marathon training program. She has been a teammate for the Las Vegas 2012 season and returned with her oldest daughter to fundraise and run the 2013 Napa to Sonoma half marathon this July. Joan trained for both events in Idaho (and while traveling) by following the team’s weekly training schedule and she took advantage of the fundraising support offered by CCFA. She has raised over $16,000 to date through her Team Challenge efforts!
PUT SOME SUMMER IN YOUR WINTER: Team Challenge is currently recruiting walkers, runners, first time athletes, and seasoned veterans alike for the Miami Half Marathon on February 2nd, 2014! Our National Team Challenge Head Coach Dave McGovern will lead one national team through 16 weeks of training and your national manager Cindie will guide you to fundraising success! Check out www.ccteamchallenge.org for more information and to request program details.

Featured CCFA Volunteers!
Robyn Pfeifer and Katherine Venables are busy college sophomores, handling full course loads while dealing with their IBD, and who have made time to be stellar volunteers for CCFA!
After giving a week of their summers to serve as cabin counselors at Camp Oasis this year, the two decided to start a support group for college students in Seattle. They kicked off the group with a presentation on how to manage IBD at college, sharing their personal experiences on requesting accommodations and juggling the busy academic schedule and social life of college. Robyn and Katherine’s support group, called “CCFA College Student Forum” began this month and will meet monthly on the University of Washington campus. Click here to learn more about all of CCFA’s support groups around the Northwest.
Q: When we are struggling with IBD, how can I coordinate friends and family who ask “What can I do to help?”
A: CCFA is proud to launch “Lotsa Helping Hands,” which powers online caring communities that help restore health and balance to caregivers’ lives. The service brings together caregivers and volunteers through online communities that organize daily life during times of medical crisis or caregiver exhaustion in neighborhoods and communities worldwide. The hallmark of the service is the caregiver-focused Help Calendar, which enables members to schedule and sign up for tasks that provide respite for the caregiver including meals for the family, rides to medical appointments, and visits. Now, when someone asks “What can I do to help?” the answer is “Give me your name and email address” the system takes over and allows people to sign up and start helping. Get involved in helping caregivers in your world here.
