2012 Crohn's and Colitis Patient Education Program This program is free of charge to all registered participants. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Hear presentation from the top IBD experts from around the country! This program is relevant for adult and pediatric patients. Topics include... IBD 101: Understanding Crohn's and Colitis- This presentation will provide a comprehensive look at the anatomy, symptoms and cause of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Extra-intestinal manifestations- Learn about the non-digestive symptoms that are associated with Crohn's and colitis such as joint pain, fatigue, skin and eye issues and more. Participants will get information about how to manage these symptoms effectively. Optimizing medication for IBD- There have been several advances in the development of IBD medications in the past ten years. There are many more options available for adult and pediatric patients. This presentation will explain the differences in these medications and the best way to optimize their use. Research updates- Unbeknownst to many, Atlanta is a hot spot for IBD reseearch. Two research updates about current IBD studies, one about stem cell research, will be given to update the participants about the leaps and bounds science is making towards finding better treatments and eventually a cure for these diseases! Stress and IBD- The news is always full of reports about stress and it's effects on our health. You will learn what stress actually does to your body and how it exacerbates symptoms. You don't want to miss this presentation! Physical activity and IBD- Here is another topic that is always in the forefront...but how does one exercise when going through a flare? We have a personal trainer that will show you the right way to exercise even when leaving the house is impossible.
